Urban Illustrator is my ongoing drawing project, devoted to drawing people in the city. Here I bring together my pen-and-ink drawings, the observations behind them and films of the drawing process.

I draw everyday life: people walking, waiting, talking, sitting or caught up in some small action. Moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed.

All my drawings are made by hand, directly in pen and ink.

Some moments I draw directly from life.

Others happen too quickly, so I photograph them and return to them later. Either way, I’m looking for something worth drawing in the people and situations around me.

I don’t always know what has caught my attention until I begin.

Drawing gives me time to look more closely, understand what I’m seeing and make something of it.
